Things To Do In the Mammoth Area

Vacation. The word instantly conjures up mental images, perhaps of busting out that swimsuit and plunging into a lake, getting out on the water in a trusty boat, catching that prized Walleye fish, hearing the crunch of leaves under your shoes as you hike along a forest trail, Kayaking along some quiet water, horseback riding on a quiet trail.


Here in the Mammoth area you'll find all of your vacation favorites, but you'll also find one of a kind excursions that you've never had the chance to experience before. Explore the world's longest known cave system at Mammoth Cave National Park, Wander among life-sized dinosaurs at Dinosaur World, feed kangaroos at Kentucky Down Under Zoo.


Get your feet dirty and then retreat to our Lakefront Treehouse Cabin for boardgames, campfire songs, hot showers, home coooked meals in the AC/Heat, and a good night's rest. It's time for Vacation.


Nolin State Park and Surrounding Area (0-15 min. from Treehouse)

Swimming

Access the lake right from the back of the property, or check out Nolin State Park's beach nearby. The State Park's beach is open Memorial Day to Labor Day!


Fishing

Bass, Walleye, Catfish and Crappie prize catches on Nolin Lake. A fishing license can be purchased here: https://fw.ky.gov/Pages/default.aspx


Boating

Access the launching ramp at the Nolin State Park.


Hiking and Biking

Brier Creek Trail consists of 9.2 miles of trail that is open for hikers and mountain bikers year round. Catch it at the right time of year and you'll see the waterfall! The trail's difficulty level is 'Moderate' and the trail head can be accessed at 2998 Brier Creek Rd, Mammoth Cave KY.


Mammoth Cave National Park Northside trails offer 65 miles of backcountry trails. A trailhead can be accessed within a 15 min. drive of the treehouse at 'Maple Springs Loop rd'. Horseback Riding

Guided horseback trail rides take you onto the horse trails of Mammoth Cave National Park. The horses are calm and gentle and can accommodate riders as young as 6 years old. Reservations are required so call ahead: 270-286-8167 or visit their website at doublejstables.com



Mammoth Cave National Park (40 min. from Treehouse)

Important: To get to the following activities, you will need to cross the Green River Ferry. The ferry operates 364 days a year, with the exception of Christmas Day, however it sporadically undergoes maintenance. Please check the day of your travel for Ferry cancellations to assure the Ferry is operating: https://www.nps.gov/maca/planyourvisit/conditions.htm


"Beneath the sandstone-capped ridges of Mammoth Cave National Park lies the most extensive known cave system on Earth, with over 350 miles of passageway mapped and surveyed. And yet after 4,000 years of intermittent exploration, the full extent of this water-formed labyrinth remains a mystery."


Cave Tours

Explore the cave through one of the dozens of tours offered by the National Park. A variety of tours are offered depending on your level of comfort and accessibility. Some of the options include a wheel chair accessible tour, an adventurous crawling tour, a Grand Historic tour, and a discovery tour. Hiking

Fishing

No fishing permit is required inside Mammoth Cave National Park!



Dinosaur World (40 min. from Treehouse)

Explore earth as it once was as you wander around hundreds of life-sized Dinosaurs in their natural environment. The park includes several interactive exhibits, a gift shop, and a Dino-themed playground.



Kentucky Down Under Zoo

Now is your chance to pet a kangaroo! Stroll through the Outback (an open field where Emus and Kangaroos roam) and feed them, go into the cage filled with Lorries, visit the Petting Zoo of farm animals, Catch an animal show of exotic animals, discover gemstones at the Gem Mining Exhibit.

Wow, there is so much to do around here. I could stay awhile! This tree house looks amazing. I didn't know that you could have all of these creature comforts and still be staying in a tree house!
